The fighting was destructive from the start, but it only got worse as time went on. Early on people were be slaughtered like sheep, but the buildings were largely untouched. When Bosnia-Herzegovina was officially accepted as separate, cities like Sarajevo were attacked by the Serbians. By the end of the war hundreds of thousands had lost their lives, almost half a million made into refugees, and millions more lost almost everything they had. Surprisingly, Serbians were the majority of refugees especially when they lost, “460,000 refugees living in Serbia in 1993, most of whom were Serbs who had fled from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” (Kopf and Markusen, 279). This war had been of the most bloody in all of history. The amount of devastationwas horrendous, “Atrocities matched the worst in recorded history and caused untold grief and irreparable damage to the people and the country” (Jessup, 85). Also the carnage was tremendous. Before the war was even over, “By the end of 1994 at least 200,000 were dead and more than two million homeless” (Jessup, 85).
